Finding Neverland !!

We've had the movie Finding Neverland for a couple of years now. I started to watch it once, but Jaidy was very bored. We have tons of dvd's, a 32 inch flat screen TV, a home theater system and movie night is one of our favorite things.

I usually try to make this a special event. I always lower the lights, and serve something fun for the movie. Sometimes it's brownies and milkshakes, other times I put m&m's in the popcorn just for fun & serve this with Hawaiian Punch. It could just be twizzlers and Sprite. Just depends on what we have on hand, but a cool snack is a must.

I always buy her colored straws, because let's face it - as a kid - straws are just plain fun !! What kid doesn't want to blow bubbles in their drink ? We always find some way of making movie night memorable.

We were going through our movies earlier this week & organizing them, and I came across Finding Neverland. I had really wanted to watch this one, and had forgotten about it some time ago. I loved Peter Pan when I was growing up, and I especially loved the book by J. M. Barrie. I figured Jaidy was old enough to watch it with me now, and she was actually delighted. I had to explain some of the plot to her.

I made Root Beer Floats, popped some popcorn, lowered the lights & turned up the home theater system. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I am a big Johnny Depp fan to begin with. I remember when he was in 21 Jump Street. I love the diversity he brings to the screen from Edward Scissorhands to Pirates of the Carribean. I am a huge fan of Titantic as well, and Kate Winslet did a wonderful job in this role.

Jaidy loved this movie so much, she is begging to watch it again. It is a romanticized account of how the story Peter Pan came about. I shed a few tears at the end when J.M. Barrie's character is talking to Peter Davies. It's definately a wonderful movie, and well worth renting !! We will be watching this again in the future.

I love to watch a movie and then plan something fun for Jaidy later. We love dramatic play, and I built her a tent in her playroom once after watching Peter Pan so she could play with her stuffed animals like Wendy and the Lost Boys. We put her in her Tinkerbell Costume, and she had a ton of fun sprinkling fairy dust on them and pretending they could fly. Dramatic play is huge at our house. She has a closet full of dress up clothes in her playroom & when her friends come over, it's even more fun.

I found the book Peter Pan online, and I am going to start printing each Chapter and reading it to Jaidy at night. I think I will sit and draw some pictures with her of the story each day. We only have 20 more days until school starts, and there are 17 short chapters to the book, so I think we can try to read one chapter a night.

It's always fun at our house - that's for sure !! Good fun, good food, and lots of laughter !! They are only little once, so make the most of it !!

Tag I'm It

My friend JC tagged me about a week and a half ago with a game about 8 habits or things people didn't know about me. I tried to put some thought into this, but when you have a 6 1/2 year old home all day during the summer time & she is an only child - it gets a bit hectic, so I am winging this:

1. I appreciate it when people point out a faux pas in my appearance.

I was in a hurry to my nephew's confirmation last spring & I ran into my good friend Michelle who I hadn't seen in several years. I was wearing black pants & a white knit turtleneck. The Catholic Church gets really packed for these events, and I was in a terrible hurry to get Jaidy ready & out the door in order to find parking in time.

I was sitting with Michelle my friend in the Children's room for about an hour visiting a little & watching the service which was 2 hours long. She leaned over and whispered to me that I had put my shirt on inside out. Luckily there was a bathroom in the Children's room & I changed. I truly appreciated it that she pointed it out to me. Had I gone over to my brother's house and he had seen this or one of my nephew's, I probably would have never heard the end of it.

2. Again, I appreciate good friends who point out my faux pas in my appearance.

Different story, same friend. I was out watching some friends in a band one night back in 1991. I had on a black shirt and cute coral skirt. I went to the bathroom, and when I left some catty girls were whispering about me and snickering. My friend Michelle ran right up to me and told me my skirt was tucked into my pantyhose. I was nearly in tears as I ran out of the bar. This same friend told me that she didn't think that many people saw me, and she made the girls in our party go outside and appologize to me for laughing at me. I went back into the bar, but this was probably my most embarrassing moment, because I know the keyboard player and I know he saw this. He never made fun of me. They were both good friends.

3. When I make friends, they are usually friends for life

I have friends who are acquaintances, but my closest dearest friends are ones I will always have for a lifetime. They are not fair or fowl weathered friends. I may not talk to someone in 8 years, and they will still remember who I am. A good friend will tell you the truth no matter what and still love you anyway.

4. I love Art and I am an Artist

I drew a perfect replica of a Michael Jordan picture. There was a girl at my church who was suicidal one night at a retreat about 9 years ago last spring. I actually caught her trying to O.D. on some meds in our Church, and made her go in and gag it all up. I gave the picture to my good friend Pastor David to give to her, as she was hospitalized.

I asked her a couple of months later if she still had it, because it was my best work to date. She said that her room was a mess and she lost it. I was so bummed about this, but was glad she was no longer suicidal.

5. I love Music

If I am happy and you know me really well, you will always catch me singing. If I am bummed, I don't sing at all. It's usually a good sign as to when something is wrong with me. If the radio is on and I am not singing along, then something is wrong.

6. I hate Yams, Brussel Sprouts, and Liver

My daughter will never be subjected to any of these foods ever. Whenever my Mom would feed us Liver and Onions for dinner, Tiff (my sis) would hide hers in a napkin and sneak it into the garbage later. Monte (my brother) would sneak his to the dog, and I would pile a ton & I mean a ton of ketchup onto my plate & sneak all of mine under the ketchup pile. We didn't mind going without supper that night whatsoever. Liver is just nasty in my opinion !!

7. I Love my Daughter & I love the movies !!

I try to make every day a new adventure with her. I try to come up with new and inventive ways to make things fun and interesting. If we sit down to watch a movie, I will make us root beer floats & pop a bowl of popcorn, lower the lights & make it more exciting. I am thrilled about the fact that she will watch more grown up movies, although I have to explain some of the plot for her.

When I take Jaidy to a comedy, she is the one laughing the loudest of all. It's an infectious laugh, and usually the audience starts laughing again, because she is still laughing so hard.

Once I went to see Meet Joe Black with my little sis Jaime. When Joe got hit by a car & died, I screamed out loud, and the entire audience started laughing at me. Jaime still brings this up from time to time to this day.

8. I forget what 8 was for but 9, 9, 9, 9 for the lost God, and 10, 10, 10, 10 for everything everything everything everything.

Ok I love Music, and I love The Violent Femmes & just about all alternative music from the 80's. I also love my family. I wish I could think of something funny to write about them, but at the moment I just can't. They are really funny sweet people, and I wouldn't be who I am without them. But, my biggest unknown fact is that I am very, very, very shy & extremely private.

Someone once called me Misty onstage in the middle of a song, and I have not gone back to see this band for more than 10 minutes since. It was someone I considered a friend until he did this to me. I don't know what to think about this person, but I bet he doesn't know why I stopped coming out to see his band.

My nickname when I was little was Misty until I was around 9 or 10. When I was 6, I got so afraid of this name that by the time I turned 9, I asked my family to never ever call me this again. We had actual ghosts in our house when I was 6 and I heard them say to me one day in my room: Misty, Misty, Misty. I was so afraid, I just got under my covers & to this day I hate this name.

My step-dad Bill thought we had our house built on Indian burial ground, because around the same time, he saw an Indian sitting at the end of his and my Mom's bed. I had a tank with a couple of angel fish, and one day I woke up to find my fish dead & half eaten in another tank with some fish who had ate them.

I cannot stand the name Misty, so please do not ever call me this unless you hate me. Even my little sister called me this once, and I was so peaved that she has never called me this again.

If you are as close to me as my little sister (and you probably are not), then I guess I will forgive the Misty thing, but now that you know - this is not a funny joke to me whatsoever. I will probably just stop talking to you if you call me this. I prefer no funny jokes like: Play Misty for me again or any references to this whatsoever - that means YOU JC.

I'm not mad at this person anymore for calling me Misty onstage in the middle of a song which leads me to an unknown fact about myself: I have what would be considered Perfect Pitch Hearing. I can spot any screw-up in any song at anytime and any place. If I have a song memorized, then I can tell if you are off key, if you throw in some added lines, or anything that is not the norm in that song, like if you are not in perfect timing, etc...

I have been told I have Perfect Pitch in my singing ability as well, but that I have to quit smoking, because my Asthma causes me to hit the wrong note sometimes. My inability to read even a note of music all makes this funny.

I learn songs by ear. I can look at the notes on the page, and they always look GREEK to me. I just don't want to learn the song by the notes, because if I can hear someone else sing in tune, then I can sing it perfectly. I can learn a song in just a few times of hearing someone, and when you sing off key, I will be the first one to know about it.

I was in the bathroom singing recently, and some people caught me singing out loud. They kept raving, "Who is the girl with the beautiful voice ?" I have heard this before in my life, but it was sweet to hear again. They were saying things like, "Simon would never boot this girl out or even have one bad thing to say if she was on American Idol."

To this I say: "If you catch me singing in my natural voice and I am completely unabashed, you will hear the beautiful voice." I save this voice for myself, my daughter, and my little sister. I do not like being made fun of whatsoever for my voice & neither do I want to be made the center of attention.

So to summize: Don't call me Misty, I have a beautiful voice, and if you gain my trust - you may hear it sometime. Please be a real friend and let me know if I have a personal faux pas - you will gain much respect.

My daughter is my shining light, and nothing in life is more important than her. I am a great lover of the Arts: Art, Music, Movies among most things. Lastly, and I didn't put it in my top 8, I love the Stars.

Reach for them as much as possible in life. Oh, and I am a Christian. I may not always appear to be one, but we are all sinners & I know I am forgiven. And, I am a huge U2 fan. There is sooooooo much more I could blog about, but as they said about Steven King: you have diarrhea of the mouth & I could talk forever, but I am really deep - so be it !!

I am supposed to tag other people, but since JC is the only one I know with a blog out there, I just cannot do that, so I guess the buck stops here.

The Wizard of Oz Diaries - Chapter 1

When I was a kid, I loved watching The Wizard of Oz. Anytime it would come on TV, our Mom would let us know and we would sit around and watch it in marvel. My Mom gave me the book when I was a kid (I always had my nose in a book while I was growing up). I just loved the story as much as the movie. It's one of mine and Jaidy's favorite movies, and now with the cool invention of DVD's, and home theaters, we can watch it anytime we want to.

We watched it this year on my birthday. It was her idea, because she knows it's one of Mommy's favorites. This is a long story leading up to how I played this game at Jeff E's house called, "Fine, we don't get to watch the Wizard of Oz, then We are going to Play The Wizard of Oz !" and how I won a million dollar bet on my 23rd birthday in 1989. Keep in mind that I went head to head with the biggest smart ass I have ever met in my life, and I won !!

By the time you are finished reading this story, you will find out who all of the Character's are in The Wizard of Oz. Some people can play more than one character, and I got to play 3 of them: The Wizard of Oz, Glinda The Good Witch of the North, and Dorothy. Jeff had to guess who I wanted to be all night long during this game I started playing with him on the 5th of July, 1989 when our 4th of July party was winding down.

I got even with Jeff-E big time for "trying" to play a silly little joke on me, and this will take me a long long time to tell this story. Try to guess as you are reading it who The Wicked Witch of the West is, who the Dorothy's are, who the Scarecrow and the Tin Man are, etc.... Especially try to figure out who The Horse of Different Colors is. It will amaze you completely.

Dorothy has the Ruby slippers which symbolize the blood of Christ, and eventually she gets to go home which is what I did when I moved back to Nebraska at the end of the story. The Wizard of Oz goes back home to Omaha (at the end of the movie it says Omaha State Fair on his balloon). The Good Witch of the North symbolizes God who gives Dorothy the knowledge about how to get home. When the Wicked Witch of the East had the Ruby Slippers, that symbolizes Christ's Death. When the house dropped on the Wicked Witch of the East and she died, the Ruby Slippers end up on Dorothy's feet, meaning she has Christ's blood & the Holy Spirit so she is saved, but she has to wander around in the desert, before she can get to the promised land. This is why I was playing all three characters.

This is your basic story of good vs. evil just like Star Wars and a ton of other cool movies I just love. So here goes:

CHAPTER I - THE EAST SIDE AND THE COWARDLY LION

In 1985, I moved from Kearney, NE out to California to live with my brother George & my sister in law Kathie in the Mojave Desert. The wind was terrible out there, but the mountains were breathtaking. Like D.A. once told me, the wind didn't stop for over 100 days straight. When I first arrived, I was the most innocent girl in the entire world. I was definately a Christian. On my 19th birthday, Amy Grant was playing in LA, but the tickets were sold out, and I didn't get to go.

I moved to California so I could goto college out there. Kearney State College just cost too much money. At that time, Jr. college in California was only $50 a semester + cost of books. I took some courses out there while I was working for Domino's Pizza.

I started out as a driver in the East Side Store. We had 3 stores when I first started (East Side, West Side, and Palmdale) all owned by a man named Jeff.
I had worked as a phone girl at a Domino's Pizza while I was at Kearney State College in Kearney, NE - so I knew how to answer the phones and take orders. Being a driver was a blast. My Manager of the store was Stevie. The Managers in Training at the time were Troy, Rich, and Francis.

I always liked working for Troy, because although he was a smart ass, he was really cool. After work sometimes, I would go over to Troy & Rich's house to watch the Laker games with Troy. Troy, Rich, and Francis all turned me onto some really cool music.

If I ever said, "Troy, I need some change." He would reply, "People in Hell need Ice Water." To this I would say, "Yes Troy, I imagine they do, but I really do need some change." Troy was my favorite, because he was good and kind to women, even though he was a smart ass. He used to always tell me, "Michelle if I didn't have a girlfriend, I would date you, because you are always so sweet."

These guys were terrible jokesters, and they all started this sick joke called Green Olives. Whenever a girl would come into the store, one of the guys would yell out, "Green Olives." I knew something was up, but Troy never said it. Troy would get really pissed, but I didn't know why. It would take me a couple of years later to find out what the joke was all about, and how Troy protected me completely from some really sick s***. I probably should have married Troy thinking back on all of it now.

I moved from a night shift driver to a day shift driver. I worked with Tom and Mary. Tom was your typical nerd, but you just had to love the guy. He had a terrible crush on me, and I just wasn't interested in him. He used to say to me, "Michewe, I weally weally wike you awot." No joke, he really talked like this. He had nerdy glasses, and he drove a chevette. He used to say, "Michewe, are you going over to Troy's house tonight to watch the Waker game ?" I would say yes & he would quickly invite himself over to watch it with us.

I was good friends with a guy named Gary (my ex boyfriend) at the time. Gary's Dad was is now former head of homicide in LA and retired (but at the time he was head of homicide & kind of like my Dad out in California). I was very close to Gary's entire family, but I also had a great relationship with Howard. We (meaning Gary & I) didn't work out as boyfriend & girlfriend - but I would stay over at his place just as friends when I went out to the desert to visit him, because it was 15 miles from town & too far to drive back home. I was living with my brother and sister in law.

One time Tom came over to our house & my sister in law Kathie told him, "Tom - Michelle isn't home and she went to Gary's so I doubt she is coming back tonight." Tom told her, "Ya, but the Waker's are on tonight - so I know Michewe is going to come home & watch it." He wouldn't leave, and he talked Kathie's ear off until 10pm when she finally told him she had to goto bed. He kept telling her, "I weally, weally wike Michewe awot !!"

I told Tom the next time I saw him, he couldn't do that stuff to me, and if he wanted to watch the Laker's then he had to ask me first, and he couldn't just come over to my house unannounced and bother my sister in law like that. I told him Tom, I am just your friend ok ?

One day Rich and I were at work, and Tom decided to play a joke on me. He was hiding in the Walk In Refrigerator (Walk In as we called it). He stopped at the store & got a pie tin & filled it with whipped cream. I went to get some food out of the Walk in for Rich, and Tom came charging out & tried to hit me in the face with the whipped cream. He missed & got some of it on my face, but it wasn't too bad. Rich said, "Michelle let's get even with Tom." He called up Troy and Francis to tell them what Tom did to me. He told me he knew they would be hungry, and that he was going to make them a pizza & have Tom deliver it to them.

Troy and Francis got on top of the roof of the house they were at (they were at a friends house & Tom didn't know the address). When Tom showed up, one of them doused him with a bucket of water, and the other one got him with a bucket of flour. Tom dropped the pizza and ran. He went home and took a shower and changed before he came back to work. He said, "Michewe I'm sorry I hit you with the whipped cream but I'm not going to pway any more jokes on you. You win !!"

Francis used to get the ladder out & tie a bucket of water to a rope & set the water on the ladder & attatch the rope to the back door. He got me time and time again with the water. No matter what any of us did, we could never get even with him. One day he was talking on the phone, and I just took a bucket of water & snuck up on him and doused him good. I told him, "Now I finally got you, and I got you good !!" He just laughed, and everyone laughed, because no one could ever get him.

Mary, the other dayshift driver was mean and sneaky. She was Stevie's sister, and she would always sleeze mine and Tom's pizzas (which meant when it was our turn for the next delivery, she would grab the pizza & take off with it herself). Troy caught her & made her do dishes for the rest of the day while Tom & I took all of the runs. Troy was the best !!

I never made fun of Mary or Tom whatsoever, but Mary had a huge problem with her weight. She eventually lost a bunch of it from what I heard. One night Francis sent me to Burger King to get all of us dinner. I took everyone's orders. Mary wanted a Whopper with cheese. She ran out to my car when no one was looking and handed me a dollar. She said make mine a double Whopper with cheese ok ? I thought this was kind of funny. I didn't tell anyone what she said, because I was sensitive to her feelings & knew people would tease her for this. She even told me, "Michelle, you aren't going to tell anyone I want a double, are you ?" I said, "Mary, your secret is safe with me & I won't tell. It's ok - I'm not going to make fun of you, ok ?" She was relieved, and she and I sort of became friends after this, until the day she really did it to me.

On Valentine's day in 1986, it rained and it was on a Friday. It got so darn busy, that Mary and Tom and I got to stay until after 8pm. Mary was competing with me to see who could break the store record for the driver with the most pizzas delivered. Although she was Steve's sister, he was very fair. She went over to count how many pizzas I had delivered that day. I asked her what she was doing? She said, "Oh nothing." I knew that was a lie.

She and I both got back to the store from our previous runs, and she was up first until she realized I was going to get a 10 pizza run out to Lockheed. She told Stevie it was my turn, and I couldn't believe she would actually do this, until I figured out what she was up to. Stevie was trying to be fair, but Mary kept saying Michelle you take it.

Stevie was fair, but I just told him to let her have the 10 pizza run out to Lockheed. She wanted to beat the store record for driver with most pizzas delivered and she wanted it so she could beat me. Steve told her no way, what's fair is fair. I got the 10 pie run and finished the day with 52 pizzas delivered which beat the store record. I got a $15 tip from Lockheed, and made close to $200 in tips that day.

Everyday after work, Mary would hound me to tell her how much money I made in tips, and I would tell her it didn't matter. She was so competetive, and I didn't like that behavior. After all I was a Christian, and I was sweet, but stood my ground when it came to things like that.

Mary was very lazy, and she would always try to get out of prepping the food and cleaning the stores. She wouldn't touch a dish to save her soul, and Tom and I did most of the work. Troy always caught her, and he made her work hard when she tried pulling her stunts. I can still imagine her half out of breath scrubbing the baseboards, those chubby cheeks a puffing away.

Rich was an excellent driver before he became an MIT, and he trained me how to be great at it. Troy taught me how to make pizzas, and Francis taught me how to spin dough. I got so good at it that eventually I could backspin it.

I had a friend named Staycee who was a phone girl, and I just adored her. Staycee was the most fun person ever.

I moved from the East Side store over to the new store in Quartz Hill when it opened to get away from Tom, because he wouldn't take the hint. I was especially glad to get away from Mary. A leopard rarely ever changes it's spots, and she never did change. Stevie used to always say, grab some clues and get the hint, but Tom and Mary never did.

Johnny was the manager of Quartz Hill. He was a lot of fun, but he let everyone get away with a lot of crap. He and I got along pretty good for the most part, and he let me make pizzas all of the time. I had a friend named Todd B. who worked over at Carl's Jr. I told him he should come be a driver at Quartz Hill, so he did. He and I both wanted to get into management, but Johnny wouldn't back me up. The day that Todd got a management position, I was pretty upset. After all, I was the one who encouraged him to apply.

He and Johnny became buddy buddy, and Johnny helped him get into management and not me. Todd was moved over to the Palmdale store. I think it was the first time in my life that I realized how unfairly women could be treated in the workplace.

Jim Brown was the manager of the Westside store, and I hated this guy more than anything in the world for reasons I will never blog about. Now I know that hate is a really strong word, but I just couldn't stand this guy for reasons only my dearest friends know about.

He had been a manager for over a year, and Jeff E. helped him franchise down in Hesperia. I was so glad that Jim and his girlfriend Charlene moved away. They ruined my Christmas one year, and then Jim ruined my Birthday another, and that's all I will blog about those two creeps.

Johnny moved from Quartz Hill to take over the Westside store, and Little Paul moved from Ohio at Thanksgiving time in 1986 to take over Quartz Hill. Little Paul was one of the best friends I ever had in my life. I told him I wanted to get into management, so he told Jeff and his best friend and Supervisor Dan that he should make me an M.I.T. (manager in training). Dan finally agreed and I got sent over to Palmdale to work for Nayo (pronounced Nie-o).

Jeff, Paul and Dan were all from Ohio. They used to all be DJ's at a bar called The crazy mama's and had all worked at Domino's together while they were in college. Jeff went to Law School out in Ohio, but he left to franchise in our area which was the fastest growing area in the country. Jeff was an incredibly intellegent man. Jeff and Dan were best friends. Jeff always called Dan The Cowardly Lion. He really was The Cowardly Lion until I gave him the courage he needed during our game night in 1989. He even looked like The Cowardly Lion !!

Dan had the funniest message on his answering machine to the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies:

Come and listen to a story about a man named Dan
4 Mit's we were nearly half dead
Then one day he was itemizing food
and up from the pits came a bubbling crude

Pizza sauce that is, Red Gold, Ohio tea

Well the first thing you know, Old Jeff's a Millionaire
Jeff said, "Dan let's move away from here"
He said California is the place we ought to be
So we loaded up the Station Wagon and moved to Luxury

Domino's Pizza, Swimming Pools, Millionaires
Y'all call back now ya hear ??

The Lake, a Ballgame, and Fireworks, OH MY !!

My little sister (best friend for life) and I are taking the girls out to the Lake this weekend. Her daughter and mine are best friends. They are going to have fun at the "beach". There is a bunch of sand, and when the boats go by, it makes mini waves. Should be a good time.

Then my sister Tiff (another close friend - as we have a tightknit family) scored us free tickets to Rosenblatt for Saturday Night with some of the best seats in the house, and they have fireworks this weekend !! It should be good times for sure.

My good friend JC tagged me, and said we are playing this game. I will blog about it later, but like to put some good thought into this. Anyone who knows me really well knows that I love the Movie the Wizard of Oz. I actually won a million dollar bet once over a game I played called The Wizard of Oz.

I used to work for a man named Jeff E. out in California. When I was only 22 years old, I was on pace at his Domino's Pizza to make $60,000 - $70,000 that year as his first female manager. Jeff didn't believe in females in management, but I completely proved myself to him. He told me once, "Michelle, you have more balls than any man I know (including him & boy was he a smart ass). You have my complete and ultimate respect."

I will blog about the million dollar bet that I won from him later, but it will be a very long blog in installments, like a story. (Jeff never technically paid me, because I didn't have a million dollars myself to bet with him & I just wanted to go around telling people that I was a millionaire if I won, and he would be able to give me s*** for the rest of my life if I didn't. That was our deal.) I won the bet for sure, because I always bet on a sure thing, and I am really kind of smart, but hate bragging about it.

This is my funniest story of all time, and I will start posting some entertaining blogs a little installment at a time to set this story up good. I called Jeff a couple of months ago. I hadn't spoken to him in nearly 9 years. I haven't seen him in 18 years. He did a TON of partying back in the day, but I was shocked that he doesn't remember who I am. That is truly funny, because part of the deal is if I ever make a million dollars, he honestly has to pay me $1 million dollars.

I am smart, and my smart ass side really wants to make a million dollars so I can go back to him & give him some s*** big time & tell him he has to pay up. It's more of a joke than anything, because I could care less if he pays me or not.

These will be called the Wizard of Oz diaries, and I will blog about them once in awhile, but the story is so funny, that I hope when you get to the end, you will be rolling on the floor laughing your arse off.

Jaidy doesn't know this side in Mommy exists. My friend D.A. should laugh the hardest of all, because he really knew these people back in the day.

As my good friend J. M. (old supervisor at one of my old jobs) put it to me a few months ago when I talked to him & reminded him of some of the crazy s*** we did back then, "That was back in the good old days." That job has changed a lot in the past 9 years since I have been there, but I have funny stories about that job too. I should write a book about all of this stuff, but I might get sued. I'm not loaded, so what the heck - I'm going to blog about it anyway. Besides, these REAL people and real stories did actually happen.

It's so unbelievable that D.A. is probably the only one who will really believe this, but if anything the funniest things in life are honesty. D.A. was there in California when all of this stuff happened. There is a character in the story called MoFo (that is the name of a U2 song, and also a code word for our Muslim friend who is in this story.) MoFo the song is about Bono's Mom's death, but MoFo was probably also D.A.'s best friend. When we lived in California, it was the worst of times, but also the very best of times. D.A. told me this once about the town we lived in: I have counted every day that the wind has not stopped in over 100 days.

JK (you know you you are, and I gave you permission to read this stuff - your identity is safe with me, and I will never tell anyone who you are, but maybe now you can understand me a little better).

For those of you who don't know, JK is a friend & will never be anything more than that, and you don't need to know this person is. All I will tell you is that if you know who you are in this story, than so be it & I don't mean any harm to you in anyway whatsoever & if my memory is incorrect in the story, then just let me know & I will edit it to apease both of our memories.

If you don't know who someone is who may be really reading this, then don't ask. I don't break confidences. Just know if you tell me something, then I will most likely tell most of mine (not your) business to my little sister or to JK who has nothing to do with this story, but who would be curious to hear this.

Jaidy Lost Her 2nd Tooth !!

Jaidy was such a little trooper. Her tooth was still hanging by a couple (2-3) strings, and I knew it would hurt her if I pulled it out for her a couple of nights ago. She kept pushing it with her tounge. I put her to bed, and about 20 minutes later she came out & said, "Look Mommy - I lost my tooth." "How did you do that ?" I asked her, because I am always curious as to her cute little explainations. "I pulled it to the side and there was just one string. Then I pulled hard & it went shoooot like that Mommy & I got it out." (I wish I had the sound effects so you could fully understand what shoooot sounds like - maybe it sounds like shuuut. Its a cross between the oo like in shoot & uh as in the ugh sound. I decided the ooooo sound is like in oo in the word took.

I was so proud of her & we remembered to leave this one properly for the tooth fairy. I was reminded of when I was about 7 years old and I had this loose tooth. I was supposed to be in bed, so I kept getting up & turning on the light to look at my tooth which was about ready to come out.

Pretty soon my parents wanted both me & my brother Monte in the front room to tell them who was turning on the light. I was afraid of my step-father's booming voice, so I lied and said it wasn't me. I should have just told the truth, but I learned my lesson big time about lying after what happened next. They told us to both go back into our rooms & turn on the light. I had been using my lamp next to my bed, but I was bound and determined not to get into trouble.

Poor Monte who was only 5 and got woke up out of his sleep, just hit his switch on his room really hard. I used my wall switch this time, and did it very quietly. Monte got the blame for the whole thing, and I just silently cried myself to sleep feeling so guilty that my brother got blamed for what I had done.

When I woke up the next morning, my tooth had come out & it was on my tounge. The next night I got rewarded from the Tooth Fairy, but I felt so guilty about what I had done. I never told anyone what I had done until I was an adult.

I learned as a kid that lying and keeping secrets like this are not a good thing. It's always better to take responsibility for your actions and face the music. I always encourage Jaidy to tell me the truth no matter what, and that she won't get into trouble unless she lies. I told her to never lie to me or keep secrets, and we can work it out no matter what it is.

I love her sweet sweet honesty. I love her good manners, and yes there are times she does have to do a time out, but I always listen to her & encourage honest respectful behavior. She is a really well behaved child most of the time, and I just love our little talks. I hope we are always this close, even when she is a teenager.

Nice to know who your real friends are !!

Some people are what you call crazy makers. I know of one such person, and this person was litterally driving me crazy. I brought it on myself with my naive niceness - I told myself once again. My little sister and best friend warned me about this person.

Finally I just had it, and I had to put this person in their place. I am not a doormat, but sometimes when dealing with aggresive people, it's hard to be assertive when you are not heard. I have a sweet sweet heart, and I am truly kind to those around me.

I have some genuinely sweet sweet friends. I love them more than anything in the world. They are kind, good listeners, good speakers, open, honest, trustworthy, and just the best in the world. You can always tell who your true friends are. They see you at your worst, and they love you anyway.

I do not love crazy maker people. I would rather surround myself with positive people in my life. I am not a negative person. I screen my friends rather closely, but no matter how many times I tried to cut ties with this crazy maker person, it would always come to haunt me. I am not answering any more phone calls from this person, or answering the door to them. They don't have the internet, and I will keep this person anonymous so as not to exploit them.

My close friends know who this person is. My closest friends have met this person & dealt with the bs as well. We all agree to just move on & get the person out of our lives.

Since my little sister was 7 she has always given the best advice. We actually ditched this person once at an 80's hair band and went to see another band, because the person was driving us crazy & we didn't like the music.

If I drove anyone of my real friends crazy while dealing with the crazy maker, I appologize sincerely as they say lack of sleep is worse than being drunk, and I know I have been punchy the past few days & really truly appologize & thank you for being there for me to vent my frustrations. Enough said, let's have fun this summer & boy is it a hot one !!

Oh No - Gross !!

Jaidy tasted something new for the first time today. She didn't like it. This is typical with her. The first time she tastes something, she usually hates it, and then 6 months later it becomes one of her favorites like fish ham (that's what she called tuna when she was 3).

I offered her a glass of milk to help get the taste out of her mouth today on her new food she tried. She drank some & then went to the bathroom. She came back in practically gagging & trying to spit in the sink. I told her to go spit in the toilet. Later she told me she took some toilet paper and she was trying to wipe the taste off of her tounge & that she accidentally swallowed some toilet paper. I'm laughing right now, because I remember some of the silly things I did when I was a kid, but poor kid knows that toilet paper tastes gross & it will make you gag. I will make a note not to try that one !!

I couldn't laugh in front of her when she told me what she did. I told her let's not try that again, and gave her a hug & sent her off to play. I love my little monkey !!

Dramatic Play !!

We have company this weekend, and I really do love to cook. We had grilled hamburgers, corn on the cob, steak fries (homemade ones), and watermelon - yummy !!

I made the girls (Jaidy's friends Dachon & DaJai are over this weekend) brownies and homemade milkshakes for dessert & now they are all watching The Princess Bride, one of my all time favorite movies. "Have fun storming the castle boys," is one of my favorite lines out of this movie. I love Billy Crystal's character in this movie, and it reminds me of some of my favorite fairy tales my Mom used to read me when I was growing up.

The girls are all played out & heading off to bed. DaJai is going to be 4 at the end of this month and she is the funniest little thing, but gets so mad when you laugh, so I was turning my back as I was giggling. Jaidy has a TV with a Dvd player in her play room, and they decided they were all going to a concert. I asked them if they wanted a CD put on, and they shouted Yeah !!

They picked out none other than Rascal Flatts which is Jaidy's favorite. Dachon is 5 1/2 & Jaidy is 6 1/2 so they are all like little stair steps. I was cutting up the watermelon while they were at the "concert." Jaidy and Dachon harmonize so well together and are awesome singers. They were in singing their hearts out while DaJai told me in her sweet little 4 year old voice, "I can't goto the concert until I find my credit card. It's 59 to goto the concert." (dollars I imagine). I turned my head to giggle, because it was so cute & she gets so mad when I laugh out loud.

DaJai is very attached to her woobie (blanket). Jaidy & Dachon came out to the kitchen to convince her that she needed to come to the concert. Jaidy told her she could bring her woobie. DaJai said, "NO, you can't take woobies to the concert."

We all started laughing out loud. DaJai got so mad, she said, "STOP LAUGHING - THIS IS NOT A FUNNY - I have a boyfriend Cayden (her crush at school) and Dachon has a boyfriend Xander too, but we DON'T play these games at the concert, OK ?????" The girls kept telling her, it's ok DaJai, the concert is free and we don't have any boyfriends there. DaJai is stubborn (I was until Guy Welton at 28 pointed out my personal defect & when the best looking smartest man in your life tells you that - you better take him seriously). She kept telling them NO.

I think it's because she worries about her singing ability, but she has a strong personality. You never know with her - she may not have all the talent that the older ones have, but she is stubborn. That stubborn streak took Bono to new heights. He didn't even know how to sing when he joined U2. He had to take voice lessons later in life, and he was actually born a redhead of all things (no wonder for the stubborness.)

I was nearly dying as I turned my head away to laugh. So Serious, but so funny at the same time.

I will have to make a note to myself to teach DaJai HOW to understand her humor later in life, as she is very sensitive like I am. It took me years to realize that I was really funny and that people weren't laughing at me, but that my imaginative honesty just made them laugh out loud. People liked me for my humor, and I need to teach this to DaJai how to take it when people laugh, so she doesn't think they are making fun of her.

It was a very entertaining day for the most part. They had a Wedding for Cinderella with Jaidy's dress up dresses starring Dachon as Cinderella, and Jaidy and DaJai as her bridesmaids. They played puppies & kitties for awhile (they pretend to be their favorite animals). Paulie and I are both very good actors (we are both pretty much into all of the arts) so Jaidan inherited those skills as well. It is a ton of fun to watch them play different characters. We have a dress up closet, and she loves to pretend. Her friends are all into it too, so it's that much more fun for them when they come over.

Needless to say, we may have a future girl band in the works, but guys work too if they find the right partners.....

Mommy Makes the Best Food !!

I made Chicken Alfredo last night for dinner, and tonight I made mini lasagna noodles with spaghetti sauce. Both are quick and easy summer time meals. Not too heavy, and if you grab a package of Lipton Alfredo noodles & microwave them & microwave frozen (microwavable) chicken breasts (I buy mine at Super Walmart for a quick meal in a hurry) - you can have dinner ready in under 15 minutes. I usually serve this with frozen broccoli or whatever veggie Jaidy is wanting.

I bought the Walmart brand of Lasagna noodles (but forget using their sauce - it's gross). I microwaved the noodles while I was browning up my hamburger & making the spaghetti sauce. I threw it all together in under 15 minutes. Serve this with a salad and garlic bread & Wallah !!

My daughter just raved - Mommy you are the best cook ever. I honestly can make all of this stuff by hand and spend hours in the kitchen, but when it's just the two of us & on the go in the summer - quick and easy works as long as it's nutritious & tastes good. My daughter acts like I have been cooking for hours.

Shanghai Spaghetti is another one of my quick favorites along with Cheddar Broccolli Rice with Chicken. Cheddar Broccoli Rice is quickly made by throwing the lipton packet in the microwave & adding real frozen broccoli. Add some more cheddar cheese if you want it cheesier, and again the frozen chicken works for this too.

Shaghai Spaghetti is one of my favorites, and I order this whenever we goto Boston's Pizza. We boil spaghetti noodles in one pot while stir frying snow peas & stir fry veggies in another pan. Add frozen shrimp. When the spaghetti and the noodles are done, toss them all together with Peanut Sauce. This stuff is really spicy & Jaidy can't have peanuts, so I toss hers with sweet and sour sauce. Its a great way to get more veggies into her system. I usually add frozen edamame (soy beans) instead of peanuts (same crunch - much healthier).

Jaidy knows if she eats good, then she gets dessert. She is a picky eater, but is eating much better for me these days. She eats better when I make simpler meals than when I spend a couple of hours in the kitchen throwing down on my awesome homemade lasagna. I usually cook those kinds of meals when we have company coming.

For dessert tonight, I pulled out the chocolate graham crackers, the chocolate frosting, and sprinkles & let her decorate her graham cracker. If I let her help with the cooking, then I can get her to eat better. I gave her a glass of Chocolate Soy Milk (Silk brand is the bomb) and we had a chocolate fest & she doesn't even know the soy milk is not only good for her heart, but the chocolate in Silk brand soy milk has natural antioxidants.

There is no greater joy than being your child's hero, and I love it when she compliments my cooking !!

Shadow Lake !!

I took Jaidy this afternoon over to Shadow Lake Towne Center. If you are out of State, the place is like a little town filled with a bunch of shops like Old Navy, Jc Penny's etc. If you are from Omaha, it's located at 72nd & Hwy 370 in Papillion. We stopped at Hy-Vee Grocery store, because they had a free bouncer (not sure what they are called but its the tent where the kids can bounce inside). She was totally thrilled to bounce in the castle with the slide attached.

Then we went to Barnes and Nobles to read some children's books. It's even more fun than the library. I really love the shops they are building over there, and love hanging out at the book store. We ran into our good friends Cheng and Tyger. Tyger was in Jaidan's class last year & we haven't seen them since last spring. They were hanging out in Barnes and Nobles as well.

When Jaidy goes back to school, I think I will go over there and read during the daytime. There is nothing better than free knowledge. I love that you can read books there for free & decide if you want to buy them. Nothing like reading my favorite magazines too & not having them stack up in the house. Just remember - some of the best things in life are free !!

Cowsers or Cowzo !!

I was going through drive through at McDonalds to pick Jaidy up a happy meal about 6 weeks ago as a treat for graduating from Kindergarten. I have told her all of the bad words and that we don't say those words ever, because they hurt people's feelings and they hurt God's feelings.

I was getting frustrated, and I am usually pretty patient, but it was taking like 10 minutes before the line moved. I said, "Come on you people, hurry up !" in an annoyed tone. Jaidy said, "Yeah You COWSERS !" in a perfect sarcastic tone. My frustration quickly turned into curiousity. "What is a Cowser ?" I asked her gently. "You know Mommy, like a little baby cow." "Oh, I exclaimed - I guess that word is ok to use when you get frustrated."

A few days later, she changed it to Cowzo. I told her she shouldn't call people names, but it was ok to say it around me when she wanted to voice her frustrations.

Sidewalk Chalk, Hopscotcher, and Sprinklers !!

We bought some new sidewalk chalk yesterday, as I have a budding artist in the house. Her perspective is so amazing in her drawings that I think she is probably doing 3rd grade artwork. She drew a picture of a hand (no other part of the body) coming into the picture bouncing a basketball. Out in the distance she drew the sun, the court & the hoop. I was just tickled pink when her Teacher complimented her. It's my favorite drawing. She loves to spend the summer drawing all of the time. Last year, I must have had over 300 drawings.

This year we are saving trees as we have a house now, and she is drawing on the sidewalk which is easily hosed down. She had a great idea. "Mommy will you draw me a hopscotcher on the sidewalk ?" I quickly obliged. That kept us busy for awhile.

When it got too hot, she would turn on the sprinkler & run through it. This kept her busy most of the afternoon while I caught up on some housework. She drew me a picture of Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn today & I am always thrilled to see her new Artwork. I am a Mom, so most of us would brag, but she really is good for her age. Both Paulie and I are artists, so she inherited the best gifts from both of us !!

I love her words she makes up like Hopscotcher. It seems like every word she makes up ends in "er" or "y" and it always puts a smile on my face.

When I grow up !!

Jaidy and I went to the Planetarium yesterday. It was very educational and although she kept asking the last 20 minutes - How much longer Mom ? - It was very cool. I love astronomy and she tells me when she grows up she wants to be an Astronaut amongt all kinds of cool things.

Here is the list of all she aspires to be: Astronaut, Artist, Teacher, Firefighter, Doctor, Dentist, Chef, Singer, Actress, a Horserider (a cow girl), a Haircutter, a Beauty Shopper, Guitar Girl, a Nurse, and somebody's neighbor.

I have a long list of things to introduce her to, so she can narrow down her choices later in life. If she were able to do all of these things later in life, wouldn't she make the coolest Astronaut of all ?

She is bugging me to go sew her a new skirt with a nautical theme, so gotta run soon.

We laid under the stars last night & found Venus, Polaris, Big Bear (Ursa Major), Little Bear (Ursa Minor), Big Dipper, Little Dipper, and a bunch of other cool stuff we learned about. If you are in the Omaha area and love the stars, be sure to check out the Planetarium on Aug 3, or 4th at 2pm to see the Summer Skies show. It's worth the $3 to learn more about our solar system & Jaidan was excited to get out her Kids Encyclopedia and read more about the Earth in Relationship to the Solar System last night. It's always the bomb when your child begs for more knowledge.

As a Mom I am Teacher, Chef, Nurse, Doctor, Conselor, and so much more. I love inspiring her to acheive all that she can in life !!

I want to pitch a tent before the end of the summer, and camp out in the back yard - that would be awesome !!

We went out right after the Planetarium for a Root Beer Float & Vanilla Milk Shake over at Fudruckers. The Planetarium is located at 67th & Dodge in the UNO Science building. John runs the place, and if you have kids, he can suggest all kinds of cool cultural events to take your kids to. He is so filled with knowledge and has suggested a bunch of cool things for me to take Jaidy to this summer.

July 16 through 20th- taking Jaidy to Kiddy College at Metro. Will blog about it later.

Forever Young !!

I decided that I am going to be 40 forever.... 41 isn't a bad age by any means, and I don't feel any older, but 40 is the perfect age. You are still young enough to do whatever you want, but wise enough to know better.

Jaidy keeps me young, and her jokes are the best. I just love her sense of humor, and every day with her is a joy. We washed the car by hand today and had tons of fun. She got me pretty good with the hose as she was spraying the car down. I accidentally got her pretty good too. We are just relaxing today after our big trip to the DMV so I could renew my drivers license. We were going to head over to Jazz on the Green tonight, but figured we need some down time as we have been busy all week. We can catch that next Thursday night.

Jaidy says, "I'm sleepy and tired. I do not know why. I played too much video games on the tv. I'll see ya later - bye...."

Oh isn't she growing up ? !! We played sidewalk chalk today as well and just need to relax. It's good to know when you need a break.

Sprinkler Park - Omaha's Best Kept Secret !!

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, I took Jaidy to Sprinkler Park. It's located by 120th and Center and it's hidden in the housing track behind the dollar movies. If you follow the road behind the dollar movies back into the housing track - you should be able to find it just past the school. It's free and a total blast !!

Here are Jaidy's comments about the Sprinkler Park:

"Sprinkler park is sooooo much fun !! You touch the black top of the blue holder and then the sprinklers come on. I went under the buckets yesterday and I screamed when the water came down. I runned through the water when the water was coming from the snake. I ran through the rainbow. I played with Dachon and DaJai yesterday. On Tuesday I played with my cousin Faith. I had the bestest time ever and it was a blast !!"

There is a playground as well at the park that is in the shape of a ship. We love going there on hot days. The water is cold, and there is plenty of room to layout. Somebody brought their shorthaired dog there the other day, and their dog ran through the sprinklers, cooling off and licking all of the water. It's the best - really !!

Jaidy says, "I went under the rainbow, and it was the best day ever !!"

The Tooth Fairy is very Smart !!

A few weeks ago, Jaidy had two new teeth grow in on the bottom, although the baby one's were still loose. I called the Dentist for some advice, and she needs a cleaning before school starts. We decided to let her lose them on her own, or they would have to give her an injection, and I do not want this milestone of hers coupled with trauma.

Yesterday on the way to Monte & Brenda's 4th of July Barbeque, she pulled out her first tooth. I put it in a plastic bag inside of my purse. I was tired after the 4th of July festivities, and I shirked my tooth fairy duties. Jaidy woke up this morning, and she was highly upset with me that we forgot to put her tooth under her pillow. I slowly snuck out 4 quarters into the plastic bag as I was pulling it out of my purse & I said, "WOW LOOK - The tooth fairy is so smart, she put the money into the bag !!"

"Oh Wow Mommy, I'm not mad at you anymore !" she exclaimed.

All throughout the Kindergarten all of the kids lost their teeth one by one, and she has been patiently waiting for this blessed event. She is really excited that she gets tooth fairy day & she is now working on wiggling out the 2nd tooth. It's tons of fun !!
